You may have received this via email a few months ago, but we think it's a great way to start out our blog postings. Everyone loves a great engagement story, so here is ours!
We looked at the weather report early in the week of March 1st, and it was supposed to be 60 degrees and blue skies on Saturday, March 6th. So we made a preliminary plan to take Harvey somewhere outside…either for a hike or to the beach…to enjoy the rare, nice Seattle winter weather! When the weekend got closer, we decided to go to Whidbey Island since I had never been and Shaun found a beach that they allow dogs to be off leash. So Saturday morning, we go about our normal routine…little did I know that when I was in the shower, Shaun was hiding things under the seats in the car like pajamas for me, dinner and breakfast for Harvey, a RING :), etc. So we take the long way to Whidbey instead of sitting in a ferry line for over an hour. We drove over Deception Pass and stopped to walk Harvey around and take a few pictures on the highest bridge ever! And then we were back on our way to Double Bluff Beach. When we got there, we let Harvey run around and play in the water and then we stopped to have our picnic that we had packed. It was seriously the most beautiful day, absolutely no wind or clouds in the sky. So after we were finished eating, Shaun tried to convince me to go further down the beach to this inlet that we could see from afar. And me, being the stubborn person that I am, insisted that Harvey couldn’t make it that much further down the beach because he would be too tired on our way back (I’m a protective mom, what can I say?). But after some convincing (and basically promising to carry Harvey back to the car if he got too tired :)) we were on our way further down the beach to where there weren’t very many people around to see what was about to happen next.
Anyone that knows me knows I LOVE pictures. So of course I insisted that we find someone to ask to take a picture of the three of us. Since there wasn’t anyone around (to Shaun’s delight), he set-up the camera to take a timer shot of us three. While setting up the camera, which we’ve only had since Christmas, he explains to me that he read about a feature on the camera that you can set the timer but it won’t start counting down until you make a fast motion once you’re all set….which I thought was SO cool. So he’s taking his time bringing Harvey over and getting all set for the picture. While I’m posing and smiling at the camera, he tells me he has a surprise for me. And the next thing I know he’s getting down on one knee and opening a box with the most shinny, beautiful ring in it that I have ever seen. And then I blacked out.
Kidding! But I was seriously SHOCKED. I kept asking, ‘Are you serious?!’ or exclaiming ‘No way, is this real?!’ But once I realized it was very much real and I was looking at the beautiful ring on my hand, I was seriously elated! Shaun also told me he had been recording the entire thing on my camera…which was set to video, not timer. :) The video is the most wonderful and EMBARRASSING 3 minutes of my entire life! But I’m so glad we have something to look back at when we’re sitting in our rocking chairs at 80 years old.
After I stopped shaking (a little), Shaun told me that he had even more surprises for me. After a short 10 minute drive from the beach, we were at the Inn at Langley. It is the most relaxing, beautiful little Inn in Langley, WA. Our room was also pet friendly because we would never go anywhere without our Harvey…and they even had a dog bed and dog dishes which I thought was so great!
Needless to say, this was the most perfect day with my most favorite people of all time.
